Simile
A comparision of generally unlike things ‘like’ or ‘as’
Metaphor
A comparison between generally unlike things; stating that one IS another
Personification
When a non-living or non-human object are given human qualities
Alliteration
Repetition of letters, usually at the beginning of words. So that they are linked together by sound.
Assonance
Repetition of the vowel sounds in words with a close connection
Rhyme
Repetition of sounds at the end of words
Onomatopoeia
When the sound of the word imitates or suggests the meaning or noise of the action described
Rhythm
Selecting specific words to form a pattern
Emotive language
Language specifically chosen to evoke an emotional response from the audience
Rhetorical question
A question asked that no answer is expected.
