The hidden or deeper meaning of a word

Exaggeration for dramatic affect

Words that sound the same but are spelt differently
Foreshadowing
Hints or clues are given about what may happen later in the story
Juxtaposition
2 ideas, themes or characters are written next to each other to highlight their differences
Oxymoron
Two contradictory words are used together
