What is broca’s area?
above temporal lobe. Responsible for speech production
Broca’s aphasia?
Inability to produce coherent speech. Content makes sense, speech is brokem
What is wernicke’s area?
Area responsible for language comprehension.
Wernicke’s Aphasia
syntax is preserved but they are not making any sense at all and words get made up on the fly sometimes
What does it mean to be an L1
Native speaker. This is your first language
What does it mean to be an L2
This is an individual’s second language.
What is a heritage language?
When your parent’s speak a language and you learn that language but are not in an environment where that language is spoken all the time.
what is Geshwind’s territory?
Unites wernicke and broca areas together
what is the arcuate fassiculus?
Bundle the connects the brocas area and wernicke’s area.
What is the Foxp2 gene?
Gene associated with language?
What is william’s syndrome?
rare genetic disorder. could support that language can still develop with cognitive disorders and may imply acquisition device.
What is Dyslexia?
related to writing – something we weren’t necessarily made to process.
misfiring involving the right brain going too hard and the broca goes less and underpowered. Geschwind area is bigger
What is stuttering?
The motor signal fires a very short ties before brocas comes on.
Lack of coordination between those 2 things.
Muscles frie before the brain is ready.
The arcuate fasciculus is shorter/thinner.
