Abstract noun
A thought/idea/feeling e.g. love, justice, hate, fear
Adjective
A word that describes a noun.
Adverb
Describes how an action is done “slowly, quickly, thoroughly”.
Alliteration
Repetition of similar sounds (you can break this down further with sibilance for “s” sounds, plosives for “P,B,T,D” sounds, fricative alliteration for “F” sounds).
Imperative verb
A command “run, think, listen”.
Metaphor
When something IS represented as something else - “Laughter is music for the soul”.
Modal verb
Indicates possibility (could, should, might, must).
Onomatopoeia
Where words are spelt how they sound “BANG” for example.
Pronoun
he, she, they, it, you.
Simile
When something is compared to something using “like” or “as”.
Tone
The way something is said “angrily, sarcastically, thoughtful, reflective”.
Verb
A doing word “running”.
