Anaphora-
A repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive sentences.
Antithesis
When two opposing ideas are purposefully placed parallel to each other in the same statement
rhetorical question
A question that is asked in order to create dramatic effect or make a point rather than to actually receive an answer
Chiasmus
A figure of speech by which the order of the terms in the first of two parallel clauses is reversed in the second.
litotes
an intentional understatment for an ironical effect
Asyndeton
The purposeful omission of conjunctions between words or parts of a sentence.
Parallelism
Using similar words, clauses, phrases, sentence structure, or other grammatical elements to emphasize similar ideas in a sentence.
Zeugma
Using one word to modify two other words, in two different ways.
Polysyndeton
The repeated use of coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor) to connect different items in a sentence.
SPACE
- speaker (author/speaker/charcter)
- purpose(what the speaker wants the audience to feel)
- audience(who will hear or read the text)
- context (world conditions when text is published)
- exigence (what sparked the speaker to write the text)
ethos
the appeal of ethics and credibity
logos
using logic or facts to argue a point
pathos
appealing to the audience with emotion
irony -
the expression of one’s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.
Parallelism -
using the same pattern of words or similar grammatical structure to show that two or more ideas have the same level of importance.
Polysyndeton -
repetition of conjunctions in close succession.
Anaphora -
repetition of a word or expression at the beginning of successive phrases, clauses, sentences, or verses especially for rhetorical or poetic effect.
Allusion -
references in literature to other works, events, people, or places.
Hyperbole -
Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. It is used to emphasize certain sentiments.
Rhetorical Question -

Metaphor -
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
Antithesis -
a person or thing that is the direct opposite of someone or something else.
Alliteration -
the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
