Q

Causes of Landslides
(Because landslides tend to be sudden and fast there are quite a few factors that contribute to the build up tension or motion of the earth materials. )

A

These include:
Excessive rainfall which makes the soil heavy and cause it to move downslope. Snow melt lubricating the soil making it heavier.

Q

Landslide effects

A
  • Destruction of infrastructures such as roads and transport links
  • Loss of vegetation on slopes.
  • Habitats may be destroyed so animals have nowhere to live.
  • Loss of homes and buildings.
  • Death of persons
  • Tsunamis where landslide materials flow into the sea or where submarine landslides occur.
