What agency is responsible for Controlling, Coordinating and conducting all searches for Missing Persons
The Police

Search is
Locating Missing people or Objects
Rescue is
Safely removing people or domestic animals from danger.
SAR Mission Controller is
The Police Officer in charge of the Search and Rescue
Pre Search information - (2. Gathering Information)
What is it? and such as
Info about the Missing Person or Object which is used to develop a search plan and to brief search teams
Gender, Age , Complexion, clothing, handed, health, fitness, medications, whether when they went missing.
Tactical Information - (2. Gathering Information)
Specifics Relating to search - Plan, Briefings, Weather, Team needs, Sitreps, Updates from Police.
(3. Setup Communications) using what?
Radios - can be through a controlled net where all communication passes seach HQ,
Phones, Sat Phone, Epirb
TFFS
Time Frame For Survival - Worked out by Search Controller using a mathematical Model - How long a missing person can survive depending upon their Age, Health and Medical Condition, Experience, Clothing, Gear and Supplied and the Weather
(4. Develop a Plan) - Area of Possibility?
Area of Probability? Search Sectors
Area of Possibility - possible Search area limit
Area if Probability - Area of Possibility with unlikely areas (fenced off area, lake) removed.
Search Sectors - Area of Probability sectorised.
Containment/Confinement (4. Develop a plan)
Road blocks, placing people around a perimeter
(5. Deploy Search Teams) Can include a Fast or Hasty Search which are?
A very quick initial search
PPE Required for a Search - Head Down - (9 items)
1) Hat / Helmet if there are any operations occurring overhead. Choppers etc
2) Eye Protection, Sunnies and Safety glasses in the bush
3) Back pack
4) Overalls or appropriate clothing
5) Wet Weather gear - Even if the weather is ok
6) Gloves
7) Gaiters
8) Socks - good socks
9) Footwear - Stuurdy
Neccessary Accessories - First 7 for assessment
1) Water - at least 600ml
2) Whistle
3) Wet Weather clothing
4) Note book and pen
5) Food - may need to be self sufficient
6) Sunscreen and insect repellant
7) First Aid kit and Medications
others Knife, watch, dunnie paper, torch and head torch, warm clothing. Salt to put on leeches.
Team Leader to regularly number off. What is it
TL - “OK everyone lets number off”
This checks that everyone is present
note TL should note how many people are in their team
