landscapes and landforms Flashcards
Whats a different type of landscape?
Desert, plain, cliff and coast
Structures of the earth
the crust, the mantle, the inner core and the outer core
Tectonic plater boundary names
Divergent, convergent, collision, transform
Different type of landscapes
desert, plain, lakes
Structures of the earth
The crust, the mantle, the inner core and outer core
Tectonic plate boundary names
divergent, collision, transform, convergent
Whats a crest and is it top or bottom
it’s top and and highest surface part of a wave
Whats a trough and top or bottom
its the bottom and lowest part of the wave
Whats wave length and how to calculate it
velocity divided by frequency and its the distance from one crest or trough to the next
Fetch
the distance of how far wind has blown over water without obstruction
Wave period def
The time it takes for two crests to pass a specified point
wave height
Wave heights describe the average height of the highest third of the waves
formation of a wave and how it breaks
On most days there is some sort of combination of wind and swell waves hitting on our beaches. Waves break when the shape of the wave becomes too steep and this usually happens as waves travel from deep water to shallow water
Constructive wave and destructive and the difference
constructive are slow and are what causes build up of materials on the beach. Destructive waves have strong backwashes
Swash and backwash meaning
swash- the layer of water after a wave has broken
backwash- the water that goes back into the sea
Coastal processes
erosion and disposition
Stack formation
Coastal erosion or the slow wearing of rock by water and wind over very long periods of time causes a stack to form.
hydraulic actions
Hydraulic Action is the sheer force of water crashing against the coastline causing material to be dislodged and carried away by the sea.
corrosion
Corrosion is where water in waves dissolves rock minerals.
attrition
Attrition is when material such as rocks and stones carried by waves hit and knock against each other wearing them down
abrasion
In geography, abrasion refers to a form of erosion in which pebbles and other sediment are ground along a solid surface
types of mountains 3
rocky (ash and mud and natural sources), fold (two or more tectonic plates pushed together) and unwarned (when a plater hits a fault and tips upside down)
what’s a volcano
a mountain or hill with a vent going through it filled with lava, gas and hot vapor
type of volcano
stratavolcano (mt etna) formed by layers of magma
how r volcanos formed
a build up of heigh and pressure deep inside the earth
cross section of a volcano
A cross section is a diagram of a volcano showing the crater, vent, magma chamber, layers or rock and crust.
what’s a hot spot in a volcano
A volcanic hotspot is an area with lots of volcanic action
what are the sheept factors
Social, historical, enviromental, economic, political and t is for technological
why are coasts important
Habitats for biodiversity, economic value and transportation
how a sand dune is formed and what it is
Sand dunes are natural land forms created by wind or water carrying and depositing sand.
how do coasts change
Coasts are dynamic and change due to Enviromental and human activity.
