16
Q

Coronoid process

A

Process is the anterior portion of the ramus

17
Q

Condyloid process

A

Process is the posterior portion of the ramus

18
Q

Alveolar process

A

Process contains sockets that hold the roots of the teeth

19
Q

Sutures

A

The intermaxillary suture joins the two maxillary bones from the nasal cavity inferiorly to between the maxillary central incisors. The medial palatine suture joins the two maxillary bones at the middle of the hard palate

20
Q

Nasion

A

The point on the skull corresponding to the middle of the nasofrontal suture at the bridge of the nose

21
Q

Maxillary tuberosity

A

Large rounded process located posterior to the third molar area. You can feel your maxillary tuberosity with your tongue behind your upper molars

22
Q

Middle and inferior turbinates

A

Bones shaped like a top inside the nasal cavity which increase the interior surface of the nose

23
Q

Glenoid fossa

A

A depression in the temporal bone which articulates with the condyle of the mandible

24
Q

External auditory meatus

A

The passage to the external opening of the ear canal

25
Q

Sigmoid notch

A

Separates the condyle from the coronoid on the ramus

26
Q

Ramus

A

Upright portion of the mandible

27
Q

Mylohyoid ridge

A

Located on the lingual surface of the mandible

28
Q

Oblique ridge

A

Located on the facial surface of the mandible

29
Q

Mandibular notch

A

Located anterior to the angle of the mandible

30
Q

Angle of the mandible

A

The point of the mandible where the ramus ascends

31
Q

Mandibular symphysis

A

Midline of the body of the mandible (centre of the chin)

32
Q

Border of the mandible

A

The under surface of the jawbone

33
Q

Retromolar area

A

The area posterior to the molars on the mandible. Find this area with your tongue behind your lower molars

34
Q

Hyoid bone

A

Not one of the bones of the face or skull, yet important to mouth structures. It is suspended from the styloid process of the temporal bone and functions as a primary support for the tongue and associated muscles. Shaped like a horseshoe with bilateral projections called the Greater and Lesser Horns. Commonly known as the “Adam’s Apple”
