Landing Gear Flashcards
What are the components of the nose landing gear? (6)
Oleo strut Shimmy damper Torque link Two wheels w/ tubeless tires Tie down fitting Jacking pad
Why type of oleo strut is used?
Air-oil
How does the 107s nose gear oleo strut work?
Piston contains oil and the cylinder contains air. Piston moves within cylinder and air-oil creates cushion. Casters 360 degrees
What is automatic centering in the 107s nose landing gear?
Final 3-4 inches of piston, a cam in the piston engages a follower slot in the barrel and the nose wheel is mechanically centered.
Will damage with any side loads
How does a shimmy damper work?
Hydraulic fluid filled. Contains stator in barrel assembly that remains fixed. The housing is attached to the barrel via the torque link. Stator/barrel clearance is 0.010 inch. An extremely viscous fluid flows through this gap. This creates resistance to prevent shimmy of the nose wheel during taxi
Does the main gear caster?
No
How is the nose wheel mounted?
Fitting at the top and 2 lugs located midway down the strut
Are the main landing gear struts interchangeable?
Yes, just have to rotate components 180 degrees
What’s the purpose of torque links?
Keep the piston from rotating within the barrel
How are the main landing gear attached?
Mounting points on each stub wing. 1 lug at the top of the barrel and two lugs additional lugs bear the bottom.
Main landing gear components?
Oleo strut
Two wheels, tubeless tires
Hoist and tie down fitting
Jacking fitting
Why must co-pilots block the pedals while taxiing?
Inadvertent movement of the pedals while using the toe brakes can cause droop stop pounding.
