Glacier

Cape
pointed landmass projecting into a body of water
Island
land entirely surrounded by water
Archipelago
group or chain of islands
Sea
large body of salt water completely or partly surrounded by land
Lagoon
shallow body of water along a coast but protected from the ocean
Swamp
wetland of fresh or salt water with reeds and a variety of plant lifeq
Mesa
broad, flat-topped hill with steep sides; larger than a butte, but smaller than a plateau
Mountain
elevation higher than a hill
Peninsula
landmass surrounded by water on three (3) sides…ex. state of Florida
Prairie
treeless plain usually covered with tall grass
Beach
shore of a body of water, usually sandy or pebbled
Isthmus
narrow strip of land that lies between two bodies of water & connects two larger pieces of land
Bay
area of a sea or ocean partly surrounded by land
Strait
narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water
Gulf
large area of a sea or ocean partly surrounded by land
Hill
land higher than level ground but not as high or as steep as a mountain
Plateau
high, flat land; larger than a mesa
Cliff
high, steep rock face
Valley
low place between hills or mountains
Canyon
deep valley with steep walls cut into the Earth by running water
Delta
usually a triangular deposit of silt, sand & small rocks at the mouth of the river
Butte
hill that rises abruptly from the surrounding area & has a flat top and steep sides
Volcano
opening in Earth’s crust through which molten lava, ash & gases are ejected
