River
A large, flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean.
Volcano
A mountain or hill with a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are expelled from beneath the Earth’s crust.
Strait
A narrow passage of water connecting two larger bodies of water.
Cape
A pointed piece of land that extends into a sea, ocean, lake, or river.
Harbor
A sheltered body of water where ships, boats, and barges can dock.
Flood Plain
A flat area of land next to a river or stream that regularly floods.
Mountain Pass
A navigable route through a mountain range or over a ridge.
Delta
A landform at the mouth of a river where it splits into several streams or channels, depositing sediment.
Bay
A broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inward.
Oasis
A fertile area in a desert where water is found, typically supporting vegetation.
Tributary
A smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river or lake.
Savanna
A grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions, often with scattered trees
Sahel
A semi-arid region of Africa between the Sahara to the north and the more fertile regions to the south.
Desert
A barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs and, consequently, living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life.
Plain
A large area of flat or gently rolling land with few trees.
Steppe
A large area of flat, unforested grassland in southeastern Europe or Siberia.
Glacier
A slow-moving mass or river of ice formed by the accumulation and compaction of snow on mountains or near the poles.
Valley
A low area of land between hills or mountains, typically with a river or stream flowing through it.
Cataract
A large, powerful waterfall or series of waterfalls.
Canyon
A deep gorge, typically one with a river flowing through it, with steep cliff walls on either side.
Cliff
A steep rock face, especially at the edge of the sea or a river.
Plateau
A flat, elevated area of land that has been uplifted by natural forces.
