Sheep farms -
1. Sheep can cope with steep slopes and they are sure footed
2. They have woolly coats to keep them warm
3. It is often too cold to grow crops in upper course and the land here is too steep for tractors
4. Sheep don’t mind the poor quality grass
What kind of farming is suitable on middle course? (and 2 reasons why)
Pastoral (like cows & pigs) -
1. Cows and pigs prefer the better quality grass here and they are not so good on slopes
2. They can be moved to safety if the river floods

Arable farming -
1. The land here is warmer and sunnier which crops need
2. Land is flatter so its easier to use machinery

Why is upper course suitable for forestry? (4)
- Trees grow well on super steep land that is difficult to use for anything else
- They can still grow on poor soil
- Having trees on slopes can help stop landslides and their roots bind the soil together
- They can be used as windbreakers for town

Why and where are water storage suitable? (4 points)
- In the upper course they is more relief rainfall so water storage lochs and a suitable land use.
- The V-shaped valleys found here can be more easily dammed to create the water storage lochs.
- In the upper course there is also fewer land uses to object a large amount of land being taken up by water storage facilities.
- Water storage lochs can only be made on impermeable rock.

- HEP is one form of renewable energy commonly found along a rivers upper course.
- Suitable here because V-shaped valleys are easier to dam
- River is flowing down a steep slope here so it is easier to get falling water to power turbines to make power
Why are wind turbines suitable in upper course?
- Often winder at higher altitudes
- Fewer people living in upper course so there is less people to object to them
