What is adverse possession?
A
The acquisition of an interest in land by a squatter or trespasser if they have occupied that land exclusively, without force, without challenge, and without secrecy for a period of 10-12 years minimum.

How long does a squatter have to occupy land to claim Adverse Possession?
A
- Unregistered land 12 years.
- Registered land 10 years and a notice must be issued to the landowner, after which the landowner has 2 years to begin proceedings to evict the squatter.
