Region
An area in which places share similar characteristics.
Landform
Natural feature on Earth’s service, such as a mountain or a river.
Mountain
A very high landform, often with steep sides.
Plain
A large area of mostly flat land that is often covered with grass.
Desert
An area that gets very little rain.
Canyon
A deep valley with steep rocky walls.
Plateau
A large, flat, raised area of land.
Boundary
A line or natural feature that divides one area from another or one state from another.
Weather
The condition of the air at a certain time and place.
Climate
The weather of a place averaged over a long period of time.
Precipitation
The amount of rain or snow that falls.
Temperature
How warm or cold a place is.
Humidity
The amount of moisture in the air.
Elevation
Tells how high a place is above sea level.
Natural Resources
Something in the environment that people can use. Ex: Forests, Oil, water, plants.
Raw Materials
Natural resources that have been changed or processed so that people can use them to make other products.
Products
The things that people make or grow.
Capital Resources
The things that people make in order to produce products.
Northeast Region`
Contains part of the oldest mountain range in the country-The Appalachian Mountains. This region is mostly hilly and rocky along the Atlantic coast but has good farmland to the west.
Southeast Region
The Appalachian Mountains gradually flatten eastward. The Mississippi and Red River flow through this region. There is rich farmland in states like Louisiana and Arkansas.
Midwest Region
Flat, grassy plains and large areas of forest. There are some rolling hills. Big rivers such as the Mississippi, Ohio, and Missouri flow through this region. Four of the five great lakes border parts of the Midwest.
Southwest Region
Deserts and canyons. The Grand Canyon can be found in this region. Part of the Rocky Mountains is in this region. To the east of the mountains are flat plains.
West Region
The Rocky Mountains are also in this region. This is the region of extremes. The highest and lowest temperatures in the United States have been recorded here. The highest and lowest landforms are also in this region. There are coastal mountains and white sandy beaches. There are coastal mountains and white sandy beaches. There are fertile, green valleys and forests. This regions also includes Hawaii and Alaska.
