Land Forms Flashcards
Describe a Ridge:
A long, narrow area of high land, steeply sloped on either side.
Describe a Valley:
A long and usually narrow indentation in the Earth’s surface. Most valleys have a river running through them, these are called river valleys.
Describe a Spur:
A finger of highland. Often valleys are seperated by spurs.
Describe a Plateau:
An elevated area of fairly level land. It is often bounded by steep land known as ‘scarp’.
Describe a Hill:
An area of land that is higher than the surrounding area but not high enough to be called a mountain.
Describe a Pass:
A lower area between two highland areas. Often these are used as transport routes.
Describe a Depression:
A depression (hole) has contour lines with lines that become lower instead of higher, these lines have small marks on them pointing toward the middle.
Describe a Concave Slope:
A slope that is gentle torwards the bottom but steeper torwards the top.
Describe a Convex Slope:
A slope that is steep torwards the bottom but slopes more gently torwards the top.
Describe a Uniform Slope:
A slope that is constant from top to bottom. It may be steeply sloping or gently sloping, but it doesn’t change.
