Why are most slums on the waterfront?
The lagoon isn’t owned by any particular person, but by Nigeria as a country. The type of land is cheap and nobody else wants it, yet, it is the only option for some people.
The response of the government
Officials cut down the illegal buildings with machetes. The government also doesnt want any residents in Makoko at all so many eviction notices were issued.
