Labs Flashcards
Creatinine
high would mean?
0.6-1.2 (A) = no biggie. Tell Dr. in the morn
best for kidney function
> high would mean kidney disease
only make higher if there is a test with dye
INR
2-3
valve 2.5-3.5
prioroity > 4 (C) = critical. Do something about it
> measures Coumadin
if > than 4, immediately hold do focused asses for bleedcing, prepare to give Vit K, and call MRP
K+
If low?
If High?
3.5-5.3
< 3.5 = (C)
5.4 - 5.9 = (C)
> or = 6.0 = (D) ASAP, cannot leave PTs bedside. Call for help
> If low: hold, assess for signs of hypokalcemia, prepare to give K+, call Dr.
> if high: hold K+, assess heart, prepare to give Kayexelate and D5W with reg insulin, call Dr.
pH
7.35 - 7.45
Anything in the 6.__ = (D)
> assess VS, correct by treating the underlying cause, Dr. needs to get there ASAP, so call Dr.
BUN
8-25
> 25 = A
nitrogen waste in the urine
> when BUN is elevated = dehydration»>
Hgb
(120-180)
80-110 = (B) Assess for anemia, bleed, maluntrition
< 80 = (C) Assess for bleed, prepare to admin blood, call Dr.
Bicarb
22 - 26
Abnormal = (A)
CO2
35-45
> high ppl with COPD
50’s = (C) Assess resp status, prepare PT to pursed lipped breathing and prolonged exhale to get rid of CO2, prob never have to call DR.
60’s = (D) Resp failure. EMERG. Dont leave room, assess resp status, prepare to intubate and vent, call RT first then Dr.
Hct
36-54 percent
Elevated = (B)
Assess for dehydration. no biggie
SaO2
78-100 ABG
70-77 = (C) Assess resps, give O2, often have correct and will not have to call Dr. will know if the dyspnea/tachy will go away
60’s = (D) Resp failure. When PO2 and CO2 are both in the 60’s
> Assess resp, give O2, prepare to intubate and vent, call resp therapist and Dr.
O2
90-100
<93 percent = (C)
< 95 percent, freak out for Peads
> COPD - have an O2 drive to breath not a CO2 drive to breath. A little hypoxia is good for COPD ppl. they run high on the CO2 and low on the O2
> if someone has had a dye procedure, the SaO2 reads the color and can give a false reading
BNP
< 100
If elevated = (B)
Best for CHF. Indicates chronic condition
WBC =
ANC =
5,000 - 11,000
below = (C)
ANC- absolute neutorphil count = 3,000 - 5, 800
CD4
> 200 = HIV
199 = AIDS
Assess for signs of infection, prepare for neutropenia precautions
Plt
150,000 - 400,000
< 90,000 = (C)
< 40, 000 = (D)»_space;> this one is the worst»>
bleeding precautions
