Labs! Flashcards
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT)
normal: 1-45 IU/L
used for liver function-more specific to liver than AST
Ammonia
normal: 15-45 mcg/dL
used for liver function
Amylase
10-130 IU/L
used to determine pancreas involvement
Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
7-42 IU/L
parallels changes in ALT in liver disease
Bicarbonate
23-29 mmol/L
Bilirubin
total: .3-1 mg/dL
direct:
Baby bilirubin
critical if it gets > 15-20 mg/dL in term infants
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
5-20 less useful measure of GFR than creatinine because BUN is also related to protein metabolism.
C-Reactive protein (CRP)
Ammonia

Cortrosyn stimulation test, 1-hour
used to diagnose adrenal insufficiency. cortrosyn is given IM and blood collected one hour later. normal response: serum cortisol increase >20 mcg/dL 60 min after cortrosyn given

BUN/CR ratio
mean is 10 but can range from 6-20.
C-Reactive protein (CRP)
Metabolic Syndrome
waist circumference: M: >40 in (102 cm) W: >35 in (88 cm)
TG >/= 150 mg/dL
HDL: M: /= 130/85
Fasting Glucose: >/= 110 mg/dL
Cholesterol
LDL: 50-190 normal

97-107 mEq/L
Serum cortisol
8: 00 a.m.-5-23 mg/dL
