Briefly discuss workers in factories rights (3)
A
- the had no rights or protection and didn’t have to vote
- employers could treat them however
- they did however try to resist bad treatment when they could

A
- their leaders would be arrested and jailed
- they government support the employers and use the army and police force to crush protesters

What is the main difference between The Swing Riots and The Luddites (2)
A
- The Swing riots were agricultural based and were against the threshing machines
- The Luddites’s riots where industrial based and were against factory machines

Discuss Swing Riots (2)
A
- in 1830 the farmers across Britain attacked the threshing machines and burned the barns and haystacks
- they also sent threatening notes to farmers to take more violent acts if they didn’t remove the machines and pay the workers more

Why were the riots dubbed The Swing Riots and Luddites (1)
A
It was named after non existent mythical Captains to stay anonymous yet still have a title

How did the government react to the Swing Riots (2)
A
- +100 attacks took place and the government acted strongly to stop them
- 19 people were death sentenced, 700 prisoned and 50 sent to Australian convicts

Why did factory workers hate the new machines (
A
- the new machines didn’t get tired and worked faster so they took the workers jobs
- those who kept their jobs had to work at the pace of the machines

- workers believed if they broke the machines they wouldn’t use them anymore
- the luddites group went around destroying machines and attacking factories

How did the government react to the Luddite attackts (

- they were afraid the violence would spread
- leaders were arrested and death sentenced
- many other luddites were sent to the prison colony in Australia
