The 1944 Education Act meant the introduction of 11+ exams

Meant smart kids of all backgrounds had a chance at going into higher education

Health
NHS was set up in 1948 and provided free
-universal access
-treatment to all medical issues

Before the NHS more than half the population went without medical care
After the introduction of the NHS, healthcare was free for all

NHS cost more to run than originally thought
Estimated to be run for around £100 M, ended up running for £240 M
Housing
1946 the New towns act was launched and by 1951 14 new towns (such as East Kilbride) and 800,000 homes were built
Housing - Positive
People were living in much larger homes, no longer single ends

The amount of houses that were actually built was far less than government originally promised (1.2 million)
