What is the first stage of labour?

What are the three phases of the first stage of labour?

A

The first stage of labour is from the onset of true contractions until the cervix is fully dilated to 10cm.

1- Latent phase (0-3cm dilation) - contractions are irregular, progressing at around 0.5cm per hour.

2- Active phase (3-7cm dilation) - with regular contractions, progressing at around 1cm per hour.

3- Transition phase (7-10cm dilation) - with strong and regular contractions, progressing at around 1cm per hour.
