Laboratory apparatus Flashcards
it holds solids or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated.
beaker
used to move beakers containing hot liquids
beaker tongs
holds solids or liquid that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated.
erlenmeyer flask
it is used to measure volumes of liquids
graduated cylinder
a thin glass tube closed at one end used to hold small amounts of materials for laboratory testing or experiment
test tube
useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle
test tube holder
used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another
funnel
used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders
test tube brush
for holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter
test tube rack
used to hold small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction
watch glass
has a spout that delivers a wash solution to a specific area
wash bottle
used for heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids
bunsen burner
used for the heating pf stable solid compounds and element
evaporating dish
used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to very high temperatures
crucible
a support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a bunsen burner
clay triangle
for handling hot crucibles also used to pick up other hot objects, NOT to be used for picking up beakers
crucible tongs
a safe and convenient way to perform reactions that require heating using a bunsen burner
ring stand
used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burettes to the ring stand
utility clamps
connect to a ring stand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction
iron rings
sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker.
wire gauze
sets to crush up solid chemicals into a smaller pieces, or to grind solids into fine powder
morter and pestle
used to transfer a small volume of liquid (less than one mL)
medicine dropper
used to manually stir solutions.
glass stirring rod
