Laboratory Apparatus Flashcards
To hold, mix and heat chemical experiments
TEST TUBE
Used to hold multiple test tubes upright at the same time
TEST TUBE RACK
Used for cleaning tubes and laboratory glassware that has narrow mouth
TEST TUBE BRUSH
Used for holding test tubes in place when the tube is hot or should not be touched
TEST TUBE HOLDER
Used to measure the volume of liquids, chemicals or solutions, CONSIDERED MORE ACCURATE
Graduated Cylinder
Useful as a reaction container to hold liquid or solid sample
BEAKER
Can measure the temperature of solid such as food, liquid such as water or gas such as air
MERCURY THERMOMETER
Piece of supporting equipment in laboratory as glassware cannot be heated directly. Diffuse the heat helping to protect glassware
WIRE GAUZE
Used to connect other pieces of lab equipment
GLASS TUBING
Used to measure mass directly from the objects ,find mass by difference for liquid and measure out substances
TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE
Used to channel liquids or fine grained chemicals into labware with a narrow neck opening
FUNNEL
Concave glass used for evaporation in Chemistry. Can also cover beakers during sample preparation.
WATCH GLASS
Used to hold hot equipments like crucible , flasks , beaker. Can also be used for handling other potientally dangerous chemicals
CRUCIBLE TONGS
Used to dispense small volunes of liquid called aliquots or sometimes gas with high accuracy
BURETTE
Used to hold crucibles and porcelain dishes heated by a bunsen burner
CLAY TRIANGLE
Used to hold growth medium in which cells can be cultured
PETRI DISH
Container to hold liquids. Designed for uniform heating boiling , distillation and ease of swirling.
FLORENCE FLASK
Three legged equipment used as platform to hold and support glassware such as beakers and flask
TRIPOD
Used to store chemicals in liquid or powder form
REAGENT BOTTLE
Used for accurate dilutions and preparation and solution and any other liquids needed at the laboratory
VOLUMERIC FLASK
Is laboratory used to condense vapors that is , turn them into liquids by cooling them down.
CONDENSER
Used for evaporation of liquids and solution to produce a solution substance or concentrated solution
EVAPORATING DISH
For combining flammable gas with controlled amount of air before ignition
BUNSEN BURNER
Used to contain liquids and for mixing , heating , cooling , incubation, filtration storage , and other liquid handling process
ELYENMEYER FLASK
Used to crush up solid chemicals into smaller pieces or to grind solids into fine powder
MORTAR AND PESTLE
Used in combination for holding and securing other items of apparatus such as glassware, tubing, thermometer probes, column funnels and overhead strirrers
STAND AND CLAMP
Used to visualize very minute object such as cells and microorganisms, giving a contrasting image that is magnified
MICROSCOPE
Used for heating sterilization and combustion in a laboratory
ALCOHOL LAMP
Used to contain chemical compounds when heating them to a very high temperature
CRUCIBLE AND COVER
Used to mix chemicals usually made of glass
GLASS ROD
