Labelling the Heart Flashcards
1
Q
Aorta - roles
A
- carries oxygenated blood away from ❤️ to body & muscles
- under high pressure to reach around whole of body
- 120/80 mmHg
2
Q
Pulmonary artery - roles
A
- Carries 🔵deoxygenated blood at low pressure from R ventricle to heart to the lungs
- lungs oxygenate the blood
- 9/18 mmHg
3
Q
Pulmonary vein - roles
A
- carries 🔴oxygenated blood at low pressure from the lungs back to the L atrium of heart
- 8 mmHg
4
Q
Left atrium - roles
A
- 1 of 4 chambers
- holds blood returning from lungs
- acts as a pump to transport blood to other areas if heart
5
Q
Mitral valve - roles
A
- Let’s blood flow from 1 chamber to heart - L atrium -> L ventricle
- valve= keeps blood flowing in 1 direction
6
Q
Aortic valve - roles
A
- valve between L ventricle & aorta
- closes of lower L chamber
- holds 🔴oxygen rich blood, opens to allow blood to leave the heart
7
Q
Left ventricle- roles
A
- 1 of 4 chambers
- receives 🔴oxygenated blood from L atrium & pumps it through the aorta, into systemic circulation
8
Q
Septum - roles
A
- Atrial= separates 2 ⬆️upper chambers (R+L atria)
- Ventricular= separates 2 ⬇️lower chambers (R+L ventricles)
- prevents the mixing of 🔴oxygenated & 🔵deoxygenated blood
9
Q
Right ventricle - roles
A
- 1 of 4 chambers
- holds 🔵deoxygenated blood from R atrium
- pumps blood to pulmonary artery
10
Q
Pulmonary valves - roles
A
- lies between R ventricle & pulmonary artery & has 3 cusps
- closes of R ventricles, opens to allow blood to flow from R atrium to R ventricle
11
Q
Right atrium - roles
A
- 1 of 4 chambers
- receives 🔵deoxygenated blood from body, through vena cava & into R ventricle-> R lungs for oxygen
12
Q
Tricuspid valve - roles
A
- 3 leaflets that open + close
- prevents blood flowing backwards
- allows blood to flow from R atrium -> R ventricle
13
Q
Superior vena cava - roles
A
Carries 🔵deoxygenated blood from ⬆️upper half of body
- from systemic circulation -> R atrium
