A process where people assume knowledge of others then act as though that knowledge were true

Students put in lower tier classes and exams, can lead to anti school behaviour and subcultures therefore result in poor educational attainment

Writer 1:
Becker: interviewed teachers and found the characteristics they preferred in a pupil “ideal pupil” all characteristics of middle class, working class may not apply themeselves - anti school subcultures
Writer 2:
Hargreaves: Halo effect. Students treated unequally due to their labels. Gender influence. WC labelled badly - failure and not trying - educational detainment
Conclude: WC students tested poorly, educationally disadvantaged due to their labels, may not try as hard, anti school behaviours and attitudes.
