AOC
French term for a PDO wine. Appellation d’Origine Controlee.
PDO
Protected Designation of Origin. Restrictive EU term to guarantee uniqueness. Implies laws in regards to varietals and methods used.
IGP
Indication Géographique Protégée. French term for a PGI wine.
PGI
Protected Geographical Indication. EU category which is less restrictive than PDO. It only guarantees where that the grapes came from that area.
Vin de Pays (VdP)
Another French term for a PGI wine.

Beaujolais: Nouveau
A light style of Beaujolais released in the November following the harvest.

The wine has been bottled from a vessel containing the dead yeast left over from fermentation. Gives more body and complexity. Common in the Nantais (Loire - Melon Blanc)

A wine from a superior vineyard site.

Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita. Italian PDO wine, most restrictive Italian designation.

Indicazione Geografica Tipica. Italian PGI wine.
