Hypoglycemia
Blood sugar lever is lower than range
High levels of glucose greater than 110 mg/dL
Can indicate diabetes or prediabetes
Hyponatremia
Sodium level below 135 mEq/L. Maybe caused by medications, diuretics, antidepressants
Hyperatremia
Sodium level above145 mEq/L usually from dehydration from diarrhea, vomiting, diuretics, sweating
Significance of low Potassium
it can be life threatening-muscle twitching, muscle cramps, kidney problems
Significance of high Potassium
Hyperkalimia: may feel muscle weakness, tingling, nausea, unusual feeling
Significance of low Albumin
Crohn’s disease, liver disease, celiac disease, inflammation
Significance of high albumin
High protein diet or dehydrated
Anemia
Low RBCs, maybe caused by blood loss (traumatic injury), surgery, bleeding, colon cancer
Significance of high count of WBC’s
Infection, stress, inflammation, trauma, allergies
Significance of low WBC count
less than 4000 per microliter- body may not be able to to fight infection (leukopenia)
Significance of high platelet count
less than 450,000 known as thrombocytosis. An ongoing condition such as anemia, cancer, inflammation
Significance of low platelet count
less than 150,000 known as thrombocytopenia. maybe caused by medication, too much alcohol, certain types of cancer, chemotherapy
Significance of total cholesterol being high
At risk for coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis
Significance of Low BUN
liver disease, malnutrition, overhydration
