Lab values Flashcards
Hemoglobin (g/dL)
male = 14-18 , female = 12-16 (g/dL)
COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT (CBC) - A series of tests of peripheral blood which provides a variety of information about the blood components.
Hemoglobin (g/dL), Hematocrit (%), RBC (cells x 10^6/microliters), platelet count (mm^3), WBC (mm^3)
Hematocrit (%)
male = 42-52 , female = 37-47 (%)
RBC (cells x 10^6/microliters)
male = 4.7-6.1 , female = 4.2-5.4 (cells x 10^6/microliters)
Platelet count (mm^3)
150,000 to 400,000 (mm^3)
WBC (mm^3)
5,000-10,000 (mm^3)
ELECTROLYTES
BUN (mg/dL), Creatinine (mg/dL), Potassium (mEq/L), Sodium (mEq/L), Glucose, fating (mg/dl), Glucose (2 hrs postprandial) (mg/dl)
BUN (mg/dL) - measure liver function, hydration status and indirectly to assess renal fx and GFR
10-20 (mg/dL)
Creatinine (mg/dL) - renal function test used to estimate GFR and progression of renal disease
0.5-1.2 (mg/dL)
Potassium (mEq/L) - used to evaluate and monitor electrolyte balance and is especially important for cardiac function
3.5-5.0 (mEq/L)
Sodium (mEq/L) - evaluate and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance and therapy.
136-145 (mEq/L)
Glucose, fasting (mg/dl) - directly measures glucose levels, commonly used in evaluation of diabetes mellitus
60-110 (mg/dl)
Glucose (2 hours postprandial) (mg/dl)
up to 140 (mg/dl)
LIPOPROTEINS AND TRIGLYCERIDES
Cholesterol (total), Triglycerides, HDL, LDL
Cholesterol, total - used to determine the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and hyperlipidermia
< 200 mg/dl
