Lab Values Flashcards
Serum Albumin
3.5-5.0; Hypo a/w edema &stress; Hyper a/w dehydration
Transferrin
> 200; when iron stores are depleted, transferrin synthesis increases so it rises with iron deficiency
TTHY/PAB
Transthyretin and Prealbumin; 16-40; liver synthesizes CRP at expense of PAB (increases)
RBP
retinol-binding protein; 3-6; binds and transports retinol
Hct
Hematocrit; (M) 42-52% / (W) 36-48%; volume of packed cells
Hgb
Hemoglobin; (M) 24-28 / (W) 12-16; iron-containing pigment
Serum Ferritin
indicate size of iron storage pool
Serum Creatinine
measures somatic protein; little reabsorption in kidneys, may indicate renal disease
TLC
Total lymphocyte count; measures immunocompetency; decreased in PCM
CRP
c-reactive protein; marker of acute inflammatory distress; decreased CRP a/w increased PAB
FEP
free erythrocyte protoporphyrin; direct measure of lead; lead and Ca compete at plasma membrane for transport
PT
prothrombin time; evaluates clotting time; anticoagulants prolong PT; Vit K will later values
