Lab Test Drugs/Proteins Flashcards
Metoprolol
Beta-1 adrenoreceptor antagonist that causes a decrease of heart rate
Drug selectivity
The binding of a drug to a particular receptor
Drug specificity
The binding of a drug to a tissue-specific receptor
Noradrenaline (Action upon the heart)
An agonist at alpha-1 adrenergic receptors leading to increased calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum leading to increased contraction
KCl (action upon the heart)
Induces membrane depolarisation leading to the opening of voltage gated calcium channels leading to increased contraction
Prazosin
A competitive antagonist of NA at the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor, causing vasodilation
Methysergide
A competitive antagonist of serotonin at the 5-HT receptors, causing vasodilation
Verapamil
A non-competitive antagonist of serotonin’s vasoconstriction via inhibition of carrier protein
Carbachol
A physiological antagonist of KCl because it causes accumulation of Cl- in the GI tract leading to net outward flow of K+
6-OHDA
A selective dopamine and noradrenergic neurotoxin
Bromocriptine
A D2 dopamine receptor agonist
Sulpiride
A selective D2 and D3 dopamine receptor antagonist
GDNF
An innate neuroprotective protein
Five freedoms
- from thirst or hunger
- from discomfort
- from pain, injury or disease
- from fear or distress
- to express normal behaviour
Chlorpromazine
Heavy tranquilizer
