What is ice good for
Acute and subacute conditions
Pain, inflammation, fever, insect bites, muscle spasm, sprains/strains, burns/boils
Contraindications for ice
Raynauds dx, coma, poor circulation, over the heart, open wounds, RA, frostbite, Gravid uterus, hypersensitivity
What are the stages of sensation
Cold 1-3 mins
Aching/stinging
Pain/burning 2-7 mins
Numbness 5-15 mins
How long to apply and how
15-20 mins with one towel layer
How and how long to ice massage
15 mins of direct ice with pressure
How and how long for slush bucket
15 mins directly in ice, remove as soon as numb and dry the area
