Report all accidents
Never taste/touch any chemical/solution. No food/drink allowed
Safety glasses
Horseplay is forbidden
Keep your lab desktop clean & wipe it off at the end of the lab period. If you discover a mess or spill by someone else, notify your teacher
Read entire instructions for experiment
Follow directions exactly as they’re given. Never change the procedure w/o permission from teacher
If a piece of glassware breaks, don’t pick it up w/ your hands. Clean it up w/ a broom & dustpan
Use care in smelling chemicals (teacher will demonstrate safe way)
Be prepared for a fire in the lab (know where/how to use the fire blanket & fire extinguisher)
Flush heat burn affected area w/cold water & notify teacher
Flush chemical spill affected area w/cold water for at least a minute & notify teacher (know where/how to use the eyewash fountain & drench shower)
Dispose of waste materials as instructed
Don’t throw insoluble solids in sink
Wear sensible, safe, protective clothing, secure long hair back, be careful of baggy clothing
Don’t enter prep area, storeroom, or fume hood w/o permission
When entering a science room don’t touch any equipment/chemicals until instructed to do so
When heating anything in a test tube use a suitable holder. Tilt tube slightly & agitate it. Never point the mouth of the tube toward any person
Read each chemical label twice before opening up container. Take only as much as you need. Don’t return excess chemicals into container. Return lid immediately & return container to its proper place.
Never take chemicals out of classroom
Never + water to concentrated acids. The heat generated may cause splattering. Instead + the acid to the water slowly while stirring
Never sit on the lab tables
