What is data?
Data refers to ‘known facts, or pieces of information collected together for reference or analysis. There are 4 types of data
what is Quantitative Data?
Quantitative –quantity (amount or number) of something. Eg. Height (cm), shoe size (mins), temperature of a day (∙C)
What is Qualitative Data?
Qualitative –quality (standard) of something. Eg. colours, names of things (rock names, animals, plants), types of words in a sentence.
What is Primary Data?
Primary Data
- Data that you or your group collect using your own experiments
What is Secondary Data?
Secondary Data
- Data that comes form the work of other people.
Eg information you find on the internet, textbooks, etc
Mistakes

Parallax errors
when the scale is not viewed at 90 degrees
Reading errors
when the measurement falls between 2 markings on a scale and you have to estimate the answer.
Instrument errors
if the instrument you are using does not measure correctly
Zero errors
When scales don’t read zero before you start, making any measurement you take after that inaccurate.
