How do you take care of the outdoor environment while working in the lab?
By keeping the environment free of pollution
What are the appropriate clothes to wear in the lab?
1) lab coat (must be closed)
2) covered shoes

What happens if you don’t follow the laboratory rules?
1) you endanger yourself and others in the lab
2) you could easily ruin your experiment
3) you put the lab at risk of an accident, which could damage equipment as well as harm people
4) you could get suspended if you’re a student or fired if you’re a researcher
What are the general rules of the lab?
1) Work quietly - Read the assigned experiment before working
2) Keep solids out of the sink
3) Do not lean, hang over or sit on the laboratory tables
4) Know emergency phone numbers to call in case of an emergency
5) Do not lift solutions, glassware or other types of apparatus above eye level
6) Follow all instructions given by your teacher
7) Do not work alone in the lab
8) Make sure you always follow the proper procedures for disposing lab waste
9) When handling any toxic or hazardous agent always wear the appropriate gloves
10) After performing an experiment you should always wash your hands with soap and water
11) When using lab equipment and chemicals, be sure to keep your hands away from your body, mouth, eyes, and face

What are the rules to use fire?
1) Open flames should never be used in the laboratory unless you have permission
2) An area of 36” diameter must be kept clear at all times around all fire sprinkler heads.
3) If there is a fire drill, be sure to turn off al electrical equipment and close all containers
4) Anyone wearing acrylic nails will not be allowed to work with matches, lighted splints, Bunsen burners, etc.
5) Don’t leave any heated materials unattended
What are the glassware rules?
1) Laboratory glassware should never be utilized as food or beverage containers
2) Correct eye protection should be work in most experiments involving glassware
3) Each time you use glassware, be sure to check it for chips and cracks
4) Broken and other waste glass should be discarded in a separated container
What are Instrument rules in the lab?
1) Never use lab equipment that you are not approved or trained by your supervisor to operate
2) Don’t operate lab equipment without permission
3) Use lab refrigerators, freezers, ovens, and storage units only for their intended purposes, but not use for your personal food and drink or storage
What are the Chemical safety rules?
1) never lift any glassware, solutions, or other types of apparatus above eye level.
2) in the event of a chemical splashing into your eye(s) or on your skin, immediately flush the affected areas with running water for at least 20 minutes and inform your lab instructor
3) Do not allow any solvent to come into contact with your skin
4) Read carefully the label and the direction on the bottle before you use it
5) Never take more chemicals from a bottle than you need for your work
6) Do no put unused chemicals back into their original container
7) Chemicals should never be mixed in sink drains.
8) Flammable and volatile chemicals should only be used in a fume hood
9) Ensure that all chemical waste is disposed of properly as indicated by your instructors
10) Don’t use single pipe tote for more than one chemical
11) Don’t use your mouth for pipetting substances
12) Don’t taste or sniff any chemicals or substances you are working with
13) Don’t pour chemicals down the drain without permission
