Lab Reports and Evaluating results Flashcards
Who named and discovered atoms?
The Greek philosopher Democritus (Demo-crit-us)
Who used Democritus’s ideas to form the first Modern Atom Model?
John Dalton.
Define Lab Report:
A account of an experiment and what was discovered during the experiment.
What are the parts of a lab report?
Title, Introduction/purpose, Hypothesis/prediction, materials and equipment, procedure, data/results, and conclusion/evaluation.
Define conclusive?
Results that lead to a definite answer.
Define inconclusive:
Results that lead to a indefinite answer.
What do Systematic Errors affect?
Systematic errors affect the accuracy of a measurement.
What do random errors affect?
Random errors affect the Precision of a measurement.
Define Calibration:
When the readings of an instrument are compared to a known measurement to check its accuracy.
Why should scientists share their results with others?
So that others can learn from them, build on them, and critique them.
Why is percent error important?
Because it tells you how accurate your measurements are.
Define estimation:
A rough guess of a measurement using observation and reasoning.
Define rounding:
Picking the closest number to a specified place value based on the accuracy of the equipment.
What is in the conclusion of a Lab Report?
An answer to the initial question with a claim and how the evidence supports the claim.
Define Calibrate:
Correlate the readings of an instrument with those of a standard to check accuracy.
