Away from the median plane
Circumduction
A circular motion that incorporates flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction
Pronation
Medial rotation of the palm so it faces posteriorly
Supination
Rotation of the palm so that it faces anteriorly
Inversion
Moving the foot medially
Eversion
Turning of the foot laterally
Protrusion/ protraction
Moving of the mandible anteriorly
Retrusion/ retraction
Moving the mandible posteriorly
Median/ midsagittal plane
Vertical plane that divides the body into right and left halves
Sagittal plane
Vertical plane parallel to the median plane that passes through either the right or left half of the body

Vertical plane passing through the body at right angles to the median plane dividing into front and back halves
Horizontal/ transverse plane
Plane that passes through the body at right angles to the median and coronal planes dividing it into upper and lower halves
