Lab Exam Flashcards
How to measure Resting HR at Brachial Artery
- place 2 fingers under the thumb between the bone and tendon
- Count the beats for 60 secs for resting 15 sec X4 if exercising starting with zero
Is less invasive
How to measure Resting HR at Carotid Artery
- 2 fingers on side of the neck by the windpipe
- count 60 secs starting with 0
What to do if you are having trouble palpating the pulse at the wrist
- Try using the carotid artery (neck)
- have the person relax their arm and go around to the inside of the body
Korotkoff Phase 1
Systolic BP
Faint tapping sound blood flow increases
Korotkoff Phase 5
Diastolic
The noise stops
How to put a blood pressure cuff on
- The width of the bladder is half the arm circumference
- Length is 3 quarter of the arm circumference
- Make sure the arrow is on the artery
How measure Resting BP
1.Feet are flat on ground
2. Arm is resting on something
3. Check for too tightness or loose
4. put stethoscope on the biracial artery
5. Pump to 220 and release at 2mmg per sec
Estimated HR Max Formula
208-.7(age)
For the Submac Bike test when do you measure at each stage?
HR= every min or .45-1
BP= 2mins 2-2:30
RPE= 2:30-2:45
What measurement determines what the workload for stages 2-4 will be?
The persons steady state that is +- 5bpm
<86= 600,750 & 900
85-100= 450,600 & 750
>100= 300,450 & 600
What are the terminations of the YMCA test?
- if they finished 4 stages
- exceeded 85% of HRR or 70% by ASCM
- RPE exceeds 17
How to find the workload in kg/m/min
kgrevolutions6
ml/kg/min =
1 Met * 3.5
ml/min
ml/kg/min * kg
L/min
ml/min/1000
