Lab Exam 1 (Bio103) Flashcards
Kinesis
The movement of a cell or organism in response to a stimulus in which the rate of movement depends on the intensity (rather than the direction) of the stimulus
Taxes
Is the movement of an organism in response to a stimulus such as light or the presence of food. Taxes are innate behavioral responses
Reflexes
An action consisting of comparatively simple segments of behavior that usually occur as direct and immediate response to particular stimuli uniquely correlated with them. Reflexive action
Fixed action pattern
Fixed action patterns consist of a series of actions triggered by a key stimulus. The pattern will go to completion even if the stimulus is removed.
Phototaxis
The movement of a motile organism in response to light
Chemotaxis
The movement of an organism or entity in response to a chemical stimulus like cheese
Gravitaxis
A form of taxis characterized by the directional movement of an organism in response to gravity
Rheotaxis
Movement of an organisms towards or away from a current of water.
