Lab Equipment Flashcards
Iron Rings
connects to ringstand and provides a stable, elevated platform for reactions
Beaker
holds solids/liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred/heated
Erlenmeyer Flask
holds solids/liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred/heated
Crucible Tongs
for handling hot crucibles; also used to pickup other hot objects. NOT to be used for picking up beakers
Test Tube Brushes
cleans test tubes and graduated cylinders
Evaporating Dish
used for the heating of stable solid compounds and elements
Bunsen Burner
used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids
Wire Gauze
sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker
Ringstand
safe and convenient way to perform reactions that require heating using a Bunsen burner
Glass Stir Rod
used to manually stir solutions and also transfer a single drop of a solution
Test Tube
holds chemicals during experiments
Graduated Cylinder
measures volumes of liquids
Spatula
dispenses solid chemicals from their containers
Weighing Boat
weighs solids that will be transferred to another vessel
Funnel
used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another
Wash Bottle
delivers a wash solution (distilled water) to a specific area
Florence Flask
used for the mixing of chemicals with a narrow neck that prevents splash exposure
Watch Glass
used to hold a small amount of a solid
Test Tube Racks
holds and organizes test tubes
Utility Clamps
used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand
Clay Triangle
used as support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a Bunsen burner
Beaker Tongs
used to move beakers containing hot liquids
