Lab Equipment Flashcards
Holds solids or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated
Beaker
Holds solids or liquids that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated
Erlenmeyer Flask
Mixing chemicals, and narrow mouth prevents splash exposure
Florence Flask
Used to measure volumes of liquids
Graduated Cylinder
long glass container that is used to heat and hold chemical experiments
Test Tubes
Useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle
Test Tube Holder
used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders
Test Tube Brushes
Used for holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter
Test Tube Racks
Used when we want to perform many small scale reactions at one time
Spot Plates
Used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction
Watch Glass
Used to manually stir solutions or for transferring a single drop of a solution
Glass Stir Rod
Used to transfer a small volume of liquid
Medicine Dropper
Used to pick up small objects
Forceps
Used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another
Funnel
Measures and delivers exact volumes of liquid
Mohr Pipet
Has a spout that delivers a wash solution to a specific area. Should only use distilled water.
Wash Bottle
Used to weigh solids that will be transferred to another vessel.
Weighing Boat
Used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers
Spatulas
Used to move beakers containing hot liquids
Beaker Tongs
Used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solids.
Bunsen Burner
Used for heating of stable solid compounds and elements.
Evaporating Disk
Used for heating certain solids, like metals, to very high temperatures
Crucible
Used as a support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a Bunsen burner.
Clay Triangle
Used to pick up other hot objects, but not beakers
Crucible Tongs
Provide surface for semi-micro scale experiments, such as drop reactions and testing of acids and bases
Glass Plates
A safe way to perform reactions that require heating using a Bunsen Burner
Ringstands
Connect to a ringstand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction
Iron rings
Used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and burets to the ringstand
Utility Clamps
Used to burets - long graduated tubes used in titration
Double Buret Clamps
Sit on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker
Wire Gauze
Used to light bunsen burners
Strikers
