Lab Earth Engine Flashcards
Remote Sensing
Remote sensing is the science of obtaining information about objects or areas from a distance, typically from aircraft or satellites
Pre-Processing
Prior to data analysis, initial processing on the raw data is usually carried out to correct for any distortion due to the characteristics of the imaging system and imaging condition
Radiometric correction
to correct for uneven sensor response over the whole image.
Geometric correction
to correct for geometric distortion due to Earth’s rotation and other imaging conditions
image enhancement
techniques such as grey level stretching to improve the contrast and spatial filtering for enhancing the edges.
Unsupervised Classification methods
Clustering, Initial Classification, Re-Classification, Land cover/Use Classes
Supervised Classification
training data, clustering, Classification, land Cover/land use
accuracy assessment
Compare the classified image to another data source that is considered to be accurate or ground truth data
Different applications of remote sensing
Coastal and Ocean applications
Hazard assessment
Natural resource management
What is GEE
new geospatial analysis platform made more than forty years of satellite imagery available online and enabled the scientific community to analyze trillions of images using parallel processing
Earth Engine
cloud-based geospatial processing platform for executing large-scale data analysis with petabytes* of data in one location.
what are uses of GEE
Operate on petabytes of imagery using Google’scloud
Embed outputs in apps
Store, share and version control your code
Import and export your own raster and vectordata (assets)
Share your own raster and vector data
Export your analysis
GEE NOT for
Cartography
Heavy duty vector operations
