Lab Assign 2 Flashcards
Aim:
Demonstrate different types of topologies and transmission media using packet transfer tool.
Types of topologies:
- bus
- Hybrid
- Star
- Mesh
- Ring
Characteristics of topologies:
- Fault identification
- Cable mass
- Hardware expense
- Prone to broken network
Like backbone of bus vvimp.
Types of transmission mode? Explain
- Simplex:
One way; monitor-keyboard. - Half duplex:
2 way; at diff time. - Full duplex:
2 way; at same time
Types of switches:
Layer 2 and layer 3.
Layer 3 : mac address
Sending a packet requirements:
- Configure the IP address first.
IP address
Example:
192.168.1.1
Range : 0 to 255
1 byte
There are 5 types.
A : 1st byte range 0 to 127.
What is subnet mask?
Example : 255.255.255.0
In practical it’s automatically calculated.
In practical, configure IP address:
1.DHCP: dynamic host config protocol.
Dynamically assigned IP address, automatically.
- Static:
User assigns IP address.
Type of packet used in practical:
ICMP : Internet control message protocol.
Setting up PDU:
Chose cable
1. Select protocol or whatever, PING here
Sequence no: 0
TTL : time to leave maybe… 32 bits
TOS : ?
Ping
