Lab 7 - Ecosystem Assessment Flashcards
What are lotic waters?
They are fast, running waters that are characterized by flow-adapted organisms, high oxygen content (rippling), and the degree of transport of suspended solids is dependent on velocity
What are lentic waters?
They are slow, standing, stagnant waters that are characterized by organisms dependent on varying amts of light, temp, oxygen, nutrients, vertical stratification and settling of suspended mateirlas
What are cold water organisms?
They inhabit cold water streams that have intact veg cover (typically headwaters) and require higher dissolved oxygen levels. Species found here are used as indicator species for high water quality.
ex. trout
What are warm water organisms?
They exist in higher temps and less oxygen rich habitats.
ex. carp, catfish, etc.
