Lab 7 Flashcards

Q

Who would perform better on a win gate, a sprint cyclist of a middle distance swimmer?

A

Sprint cyclist because of them having neural adaptation to the cycling and the aerobic abilities of their leg muscle fibers would be better as they use more legs compared to the swimmer who is more upper body

Q

What effect does ingestion of sodium bicarbonate have on a single wingate test performance>

A

It wouldn’t have any effect on a single wingate test because the lactic acid doesn’t build up iuntoll the end of the test
-this tells you that the wingate is a more anaerobic test since there is more lactic acid buildup and would go into the phosphocreatine depletion

Q

What effect does sodium bicarbonate have on repeated wingate tests? What would this mean about possible causes of fatigue during repeated tests

A

On repeated tests it would have a large effect since between the tests it would decrease the feeling of fatigue and tiredness by delaying the buildup of lactic acid, in turn improving power output and test scores throughout the repeated tests even when body fatigue is setting in.

Q

What effect does creatine monohydrate supplementation have on wingate test performance? What might be the reason for this?

A

It would enhance performance and the reason is it would increase the phosphocreatine storage which lets you resynthesize ATP faster

Q

Compare anaerobic ATP-CP, anaerobic glycolytic, and aerobic or oxidative with the causes of fatigue for each

A

Anaerobic ATP-CP would have high levels of fatigue and is causes by phosphocreatine levels being low/ depletion
Anaerobic glycolytic would have medium levels of fatigue and would be causes by lactic acid buildup
Aerobic/ oxidative would have low levels of fatigue and would be caused by glycogen depletion

Q

Is the wingate test valid for measure in anaerobic power during off season training for winter sports>

A

Yes it’s valid because it measures the power output of the legs and something like hockey is all about power output mostly involving the legs.
