lab 6 (simple and gram staining bacteria) Flashcards
1
Q
simple stain
A
use only one dye, dye all cells and structures the same color.
2
Q
differential stain
A
use two or more stains and ability to distinguish cell types and parts
3
Q
gram stain
A
most common differential stain. developed by Hans Christian Gram. It has 4 different reagents and the results based on differences in the cell wall of bacteria.
4
Q
gram-positive
A
a thick cell wall composed carbohydrates know as peptidoglycan.
5
Q
gram-negative
A
a thinner cell wall composed peptidoglycan and lipopolysaccharides between an inner and outer membrane.
6
Q
primary stain
A
crystal violet acts this. it colors the wall of bacteria and makes them appear purple.
