Lab 6: Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Is the blood that enters the right atrium O2 poor or rich and why?
O2 poor because it is coming back from tissues where it dropped off oxygen and picked up CO2.
Is the blood that enters the left atrium o2 poor or rich?
O2 rich because it is coming back from the lungs.
Which ventricle is more muscular and why?
the left because it has to pump the blood from around the body.
What is the function of the semilunar valve?
keep the blood flowing in one direction.
what Is another name for the “chord tendinae”? What do they do?
heartstrings. They hold the atrioventricular valves in place while the heart contracts.
Trace the path of blood from the right side of the heart to the aorta.
vena cava to right atrium to tricuspid valve to right ventricle to semilunar valve to pulmonary artery to lungs to pulmonary vein to left atrium to bicuspid valve to left ventricle to semilunar valve to aorta.
Which side of the heart pumps O2 poor blood?
Right side.
What does an SA node cause and what is it also called?
Causes the atria to contract and is also called a pacemaker.
What does the P wave indicate?
contractions.
What does the AV node cause?
Ventricular contraction.
What does the QRS wave inidicate?
That ventricles are about to contract.
Voltage changes in the ECG are relates to the:
ventricular contractions about to occur.
Which sound in the heart is louder, sub or dub?
Lub.
Why is the blood pressure the highest just after the ventricle systole?
Chamber contracts.
Why does exercise increase heart rate?
Blood needs oxygen rich blood and supplies oxygen demand, and exercise increases the pump of blood.
