Lab 6 (Articulations) Flashcards
Bony joints
Two bones fusing to become one
ex. frontal bones, epypheseal line
Fibrous Joints
Adjacent Joints bound by collagen
Ex. Sutures, gomphosis, syndesmosis
3 Types of Sutures
Plane, Serrate, Lap
Syndesmosis
Two bones bound by a ligament
Ex. radius & ulna
3 Types of Cartilage
Hyaline L - ends of long bones, ribs, trachea F - reduce joint friction, open airway Fibrocartilidge L - pubic symphysis F - resist compression Elastic L - external ear F - recoil, framework
Cartilaginous Joints (2)
Synchondrosis - bones help together by hyaline cartilage, ribs
Symphysis - bones held together by fibrocartilage, pubic symphysis
Synovial Joints
-joint capsule filled with synovial fluid
Bursa(e)
synovial sack between bones and tendons, cushions
tendon sheath
synovial sack that encases tendon
6 Synovial Joint Types and Examples
G - gliding -carpel bones H - hinge -elbow (humeroulnar joint) P - pivot -radioulnar C - condyloid -metacarpalphalangeal joints S - saddle -trapeziometacarpel joint (thumb) B - Ball & Socket -glenohumeral joint
