Q

2 Assumptions of statistical mechanisms that examine the occurance of the species within a set of samples are

A
  1. The individuals of a species are randomly dispersed with respect to one another
  2. These same individuals are randomly dispersed with respect to any environmental gradients/changes.

If these assumptions are true then the result, in terms of abundance, for a given species over a number of samples taken across some environmental gradient should be the same, i.e. the same number of individuals should be found in each sample.
