jejunostomy
installation of a sm volume of liquid nourishment on a continuous flow slow drip over a 24hr period. usually with the aid of an electric feeding pump to regulate the infusion
continuous feeding
placement of a tube into the stomach or intestine through the mouth or nose or through an artificial opening made in the abdominal wall to the stomach or jejunum
GI intubation

gastrostomy tube
provision of nutrients through the GI tract when the client cannot ingest, chew, or swallow food but can digest and absorb nutrients
enteral nutrition
tube entering the nose and extending into the stomach
nasogastric tube
procedure using an endoscope where a catheter is inserted through a puncture made through the skin, subcut tissue and into the stomach for feeding
PEG
the admin of 300-500 ml of enteral formula several times a day
intermittent feeding
rhythmic, wave-like muscular contractions that move food down the GI tract
peristalsis
removal of fluids and gas from a cavity using suction
aspirate
continuous feedings that are admin in less than 24hrsm often admin at night
cyclic feedings
undigested formula remaining in the stomach after feeding
residual feeding
